Abstract
A case of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) after lumbar disc surgery is reported. A 66-year-old woman presented with left sciatica related to disc herniation L5-S1. Although we had removed herniated disc without difficulty, great toe dorsiflextion weakness and allodynia as left L5 dermatome were developed. Swelling and bluish color of left ankle and coldness of left leg were found. Postoperative magnetic resonance imaging shows that minimal hematoma surrounds left L5 exiting root. This phenomenon is regarded as CRPS type II resulting from compressive nerve injury. The symptoms gradually improved after sympathetic block.
